Jacqui Houlston is hoping to add her own ingredients to the recipe for success which has already been established at the Quil Care Group.

Self-confessed baking fan Jacqui joined last month and is in the process of becoming our Registered Care Manager.

It comes at a busy time for Quil Care with staff moving to new offices within our existing base at the Sansaw Business Park at Hadnall near Shrewsbury.

“It’s all hands on deck with the move while at the same time making sure our day to day work with our clients is being fulfilled”, she said.

Taking time out from moving boxes to the new offices, Jacqui said she was relishing her new challenge with Quil Care, and had spent much of the past month getting to know both the staff and the clients.

She said: “l have already been out to see all of our clients and I am hoping to ensure they get the best possible care they deserve.

“It really is a rewarding job. When I go to see a client, it brightens up my day because the minute you walk in you see the smile coming across their face and they are all wonderful people.”

Jacqui has been involved in the care industry all her working life, at first with young people and then as a team manager for clients with complex care needs such as Motor Neurone Disease, acquired brain injuries and spinal injuries.

She said: “Joining Quil Care will be an amazing new venture for me and hopefully I can bring a lot of skills that I have picked up in my previous jobs which can be transferred.”

Jacqui will be working with our team of domiciliary care workers and residential care workers aiming to make sure their skills and training are kept up to date.

“I want to work with the staff so they are the best they can possibly be at their jobs for the benefit of both themselves and our clients, ensuring they are getting the best possible care.”

The group is going through the process of registering Jacqui with the Care Quality Commission which should be completed in the autumn.

She added: “I am the responsible person for the company. Any complaints from clients or notifications from the CQC, I am the face that they come to and I deal with them.”

Her love of baking developed when she was working with young people, and has continued ever since.

“It started as a sort of stress relief. But it was also good to get the young people involved and give them something to do which is enjoyable. It is a very precise skill, which I enjoy.”

Outside of work, Jacqui loves to go travelling with her husband Morris, especially now her two daughters have flown the nest! “I love going away to different places and going on holiday. This year we have been to Amsterdam, Kent, Normandy and Ibiza. There are also trips to Scotland and Rome in the pipeline. It is something that motivates me to work.”

Now, though, the focus is on the office move, and the Quil Care clients.

“I have had good feedback from everyone I have spoken to, and hopefully we can even improve on that as we continue to move forward.”
